DDR-Vestfyn – special exhibition in Assens

Only 40 km of water separated Denmark and East Germany (DDR), but the differences between the two societies were significant. Here you have the opportunity to experience history up close in authentic and rustic surroundings.

Experience the history of East Germany

At the exhibition, you and your family can explore a collection of objects from East German society. Here you will find everything from military uniforms and toys to selected vehicles and personal stories from people who lived in an authoritarian society.

The exhibition provides insight into what made the DDR unique and how the strengths and challenges of the society influenced everyday life. At the same time, you will gain an understanding of how traces of the DDR can still be seen in Germany today.

Guided tours

On most opening days, you can join a guided tour with the owner of the collection. The tours will be marked at the entrance and give you the opportunity to discover even more stories and details during your visit.

Parking and accessibility

• Free parking is available at Strandmølledammen on the opposite side of Skovvej. There is also easy access for both cyclists and pedestrians.

Open during weeks 27–36:

• Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday: 09:00–16:00
• Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: Closed
