Helnæs Kro on Helnæs

Helnæs Kro is a charming inn located on the scenic peninsula of Helnæs in southwest Funen. Since 1879, the focus has been on cozy atmosphere and culinary delights – a place where tradition and the taste of the good life go hand in hand.

The inn is known for its homemade food, prepared with fresh ingredients and served by friendly and professional staff. Both the lunch and dinner menus feature the best of classic Danish inn cuisine – with game and fish from the rich wildlife around Helnæs, and a wine list that completes the experience.

Helnæs Kro is the perfect choice for a cozy lunch on a trip around Helnæs, a good dinner with friends or family – or as the setting for an unforgettable celebration in beautiful and welcoming surroundings. The inn also welcomes parties of all sizes – with space for up to 80 guests in the banquet hall.

The history of Helnæs Kro

Helnæs Kro has roots dating back to 1866, when the building was first constructed as a farm. When the land did not yield the expected harvest, Helnæs Købmandshandel (general store) opened in 1868, and in 1879 the first innkeeper's license was granted – marking the beginning of more than 140 years of inn tradition on Helnæs.

The inn was expanded in 1888, when the island's largest landowners built a hall that served as both a community center and an extension of the inn. In 1924, a wooden veranda was added – financed by a prize of 4,000 DKK won in the national lottery.

Since 1967, Helnæs Kro has operated exclusively as a restaurant – with a strong focus on Danish food, community, and tradition.
