Museum WILLEMOES
Museum WILLEMOES tells the story of the naval hero Peter Willemoes from Assens, who became a national hero at the age of just 17 during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801.

Museum WILLEMOES: A Museum with Plenty of Room for Young Explorers
Museum WILLEMOES is located in the birthplace of the naval hero Peter Willemoes – Willemoesgaarden, a beautiful red half-timbered house dating back to the 17th century. The historic building is named after the young naval hero whose dramatic story unfolds inside. The exhibition begins with Peter Willemoes' death before taking you back through the defining moments of his life and his journey to becoming a national hero.
Along the way, you'll meet people connected to his story, including Peter Willemoes' sister, a diver, a maritime expert and a hero expert, who each share their unique perspective on his remarkable life.
The exhibition is designed for discovery, play and hands-on learning, offering memorable experiences for both children and adults.
On the ground floor, you'll find a maritime play area where heroes of all ages can explore together.
Go on a treasure hunt through Peter Willemoes' story, set sail on the open sea, fire cannonballs from your ship, climb into an old diving bell, colour your own hero and much more. At Museum WILLEMOES, learning and play go hand in hand.
Museum WILLEMOES is part of Museum Vestfyn.
