Lundager Forest – Nature, hiking trails and outdoor life near Assens
Lundager Forest is a relatively new natural area established in 2016 through a collaboration between Assens Municipality, Assens Water Supply and the Danish Nature Agency. The forest protects the groundwater for around 4,000 households and at the same time serves as a green retreat for everyone seeking peace, nature experiences and easily accessible walking routes.
Hiking trails and experiences
In Lundager Forest you will find a network of gravel paths of about 5 km, perfect for short walks and relaxing excursions. Along the way, benches and a cosy picnic shelter invite you to take a break in the greenery.
Round trip to the old ash tree
A special 1.2 km route leads to the forest’s oldest tree – the old ash. The tree is hollow and serves as an important habitat for insects, fungi and birds. The route is flat and accessible for wheelchairs and electric scooters. At the tree you will also find a bench and large seating stones.

Nature and biodiversity
The forest was established without the use of pesticides and fertilisers and was created with a focus on promoting biodiversity. The area will develop over time, with open spaces, newly planted trees and a variation of flora and fauna that makes it a living nature project for the future.
