Route description

Length: Approx. 28 km.
Start and end: VisitAssens.

Start: VisitAssens

Follow Nordre Havnevej and Kildensmindevej 2.7 km to the traffic lights at Østre Ringvej.
Cross the Ringvej and continue on the small road for 1.4 km to Brahesborgvej.

Galleri Sulegården

Just before Brahesborgvej, the gallery is on the left. Artist Carl Henning Aarsø exhibits here in a historic half-timbered farm. Also visit the fun "dollhouse" in 1:6 scale.

Brahesborg Gods (manor)

Turn ⬅ and follow Brahesborgvej. On the left side is Brahesborg Manor and Denmark's oldest suspension bridge from 1846. Optionally, make a detour into the courtyard.

Gamtofte Church

After 2.6 km, the church appears with three stained glass windows and a bronze crucifix by Peter Brandes. Across the road is an RAF memorial and the plane's propeller.

Turup Church

Turn ⬅ onto Gamtoftevej about 2 km. The church features an altarpiece by Maja Lisa Engelhardt. Turn ➡ onto Kærvangen – benches/picnic tables at both ends of the village pond.

Strøjer Samlingen

Follow Bogyden 3.2 km. Pass Strøjer's Brickworks and its vintage car collection, some formerly owned by the royal family. Turn ➡ onto Sø Søbyvej, ➡ onto Johan Rantzaus vej approx. 1.8 km to Odensevej.

Øksnebjerg Stone

This stone marks Johan Rantzau's victory in 1535. The inscription is by Johannes V. Jensen. Enjoy the fantastic view from the site.

Ebberup

Turn ➡ onto Odensevej, ⬅ onto Thinggyden to Ebberup. Turn ⬅ onto Ravnekærvej to Spar. Turn ➡ onto Ebberupvej. At Skolevej is a playground and picnic spot. Turn ⬅ onto Rybergsvej, ➡ onto Kirkebakken.

Sønderby Church

Here lie fallen airmen and soldiers from 1864. The Trapp family (Sound of Music) sang here in 1939. Contact the gravedigger if the church is closed.

End of the route

Follow Kirkebakken to Langegyde ➡, ⬅ onto Flædekærvej to Saltofte (playground and picnic tables). Continue 300 m on Lerbjergvej, ⬅ onto Egebjergvej, ⬅ onto Dalvænget. Turn ⬅ before Harald Nyborg, ➡ onto Stejlebjergvej, ⬅ onto Sdr. Ringvej and back to VisitAssens (approx. 1.9 km).
