Hiking trail: The Ice Age Route in Vissenbjerg Bakker

Experience the Ice Age Route in Vissenbjerg
Welcome to Vissenbjerg Bakker, where you can explore the Ice Age Route.
Description of the Ice Age Route
- Distance: 4 km
- Starting point: The car park in front of the Koelbjerg Man – The Ice Age museum.
From the car park, you walk to “Udsigten” (The Viewpoint), which is 129 metres above sea level and the highest point in the area. From “Udsigten”, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the clay plateau hills and the Brænde Å valley.
The route continues along the ridge and down to Møllesøen, where you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere by the quiet lake.
Møllesøen is located at the next elevation level, 80 metres above sea level. The deposits contain a large amount of clay, forming what is known as a clay plateau hill.
You will pass through “Afgrunden” (The Abyss), which, at 400 metres long and 16 metres deep, is Denmark’s most distinctive meltwater gorge.
After passing through “Afgrunden”, you reach the lowest of the three elevation levels. From here, you follow the road “Under Bankerne”, where you can admire the 30-metre-high slopes left behind after the ice melted.
The way back is uphill. Along the way, you will pass the shelter site with tables and benches, followed by Café Orkideen, where you can enjoy a refreshment before tackling the final climb.
