Get a taste of life by the water and discover the local fishing culture at Helnæs Bugt Fishing Association. The association is based at Strandbakken on Helnæs and brings together local residents, recreational anglers and visitors with a shared interest in fishing, nature and life around Helnæs Bay.

The association works to preserve and promote the area's local fishing culture. You are also welcome to visit if you are staying on Helnæs and would like to experience the local community around the bay.

Fishing in Helnæs Bay

Fishing from Helnæs takes place in several areas, including Nørrefjord, around Illum, near Helnæs Lighthouse and elsewhere in the bay. Depending on the season and conditions, you may catch species such as flounder, herring, mackerel and turbot.

The association has a jetty, a clubhouse and an area for drying fishing nets. Members can also borrow various types of fishing equipment, including flounder nets and shrimp push nets.

Mussels and nature conservation

Fish are not the association's only focus. The association also cultivates mussels on lines in Nørrefjord and is involved in projects aimed at improving marine habitats. Among other initiatives, the association has helped establish the Vesterhoved stone reef near Helnæs.

A local community by the water

Helnæs Bugt Fishing Association is for those of you who would like to be part of the community around the bay. The association regularly organises activities and has a tradition of arranging fishing trips for children.

The clubhouse at Strandbakken has kitchen equipment and room for approximately 10-12 people. There is also a public toilet by the parking area.

Everyone around Helnæs Bay is welcome to join the association – including those staying on Helnæs while on holiday or camping. As a member, you can take part in the association's activities and become part of the local recreational fishing community.
