Brunebjerg Shelter Site is a popular gathering place for both children and adults, where nature, community, and outdoor life go hand in hand. Here, you can cook over an open fire and explore the surrounding landscape with forests, streams, and trail systems close by.


Brunebjerg Shelter Site near Assens
Close to Assens – right by the Kærum Å trail – you will find Brunebjerg Shelter Site, which is an ideal starting point for great nature experiences. From here, you have direct access to the beautiful hiking route along Kærum Å, winding from the centre of Assens all the way to Melbyskoven.
Brunebjerg Shelter Site is a popular meeting place for both children and adults. Here you will find a cosy campfire area with a grill grate, a picnic shelter with tables and benches, as well as facilities such as a toilet and water.
Nearby, you will find a lovely dog forest where your dog can run freely off-leash and play in safe surroundings.
Capacity and booking
The shelter site has two shelters with space for up to six people in each. You can book a spot for DKK 10 per person per night. Please note that your booking is only valid if you arrive before 6:00 PM. If the shelters are not booked, you can use them free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. However, please be aware that you must vacate the shelter if it is booked before 6:00 PM.

Mountain bike route
If you enjoy speed and challenges, you can also try the approximately 5.5 km long mountain bike trail in the area. The route offers both dense forest sections and open stretches, as well as varied terrain with steep climbs and sharp turns.
Parking
If you arrive by car, you can park near the allotment gardens or by the dog forest about 200 metres from the shelter site. From here, access is via Faaborgvej by the dog forest.
The shelter site is owned and operated by Assens Municipality.
