New exhibition: Giants of the Ice Age
The giants of the Ice Age are moving into Vissenbjerg – get up close to mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, and woolly rhinoceroses.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, woolly rhinoceroses, and other giants arrived – ready to impress visitors from near and far.
These enormous animals – life-sized 1:1 models – are impossible to miss. With realistic details, movements, and sounds, it feels like stepping back more than 10,000 years into a time when the giants of the Ice Age ruled the landscape.
“This is a very special day for us at the Reptile Zoo. When we see these large animals placed in the frozen landscape, we can almost feel the cold and history all around us,” says Morten Jørgensen, director of Terrariet Reptile Zoo.
A journey back to the Ice Age – for the whole family
The new exhibition “GIANTS OF THE ICE AGE – Life in a Frozen World” officially opens on June 21, 2025. Here you can experience a sensory and educational journey about the European animals that disappeared at the end of the last Ice Age. The exhibition is packed with interactive elements, lifelike settings, and fascinating stories about animals, climate, and survival in a harsh world.
The exhibition is created in collaboration with Aalborg Zoo, Assens Municipality, local sponsors, and many dedicated contributors who have helped with everything from transporting the giants to building the landscape.
